DONGFENG Motor Corporation will officially be entering the local electric vehicle (EV) sphere as early as Q4 2024.

It'll be making its entrance with the debut of the Box, which is known as the Nammi 01 in China. The model will be assembled locally (CKD).

Central Auto Distributors Bhd (CADB), a wholly-owned subsidiary company of the Association of Malay Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia (Pekema), has been assigned to assume the role as an exclusive importer and distributor for the brand's passenger cars in Malaysia market.

"As an exclusive distributor and importers for the brand, we are thrilled to embark into this exciting journey together with our network of valued dealers. At the moment, the team is working hard in finalizing the retail package which will benefit our customers right from the sales offerings and more importantly the after sales support," CADB operation director Datuk SM Zulkifli.

Pekema president Datuk Hj Mohamed Nazari said the association is committed in supporting the government's vision in accelerating a comprehensive and conducive EV eco-system in the country.

"This project with Dongfeng as a prominent state-owned automotive corporation is a significant milestone in charting future path of Pekema and stay relevant for the next generation of our members nationwide.

"As the first country to debut right- hand drive passenger car for Dongfeng brand, it's the testament that Pekema is an important overseas partner and Malaysia is recognized as a key international market for global automakers," he added.

The Box is the first model built on the Dongfeng Quantum Architecture S3 platform.

Targeted towards urban young people or families it has a body dimension of 4020/1810/1570 mm and a wheelbase of 2663mm.

The vehicle's adopts a through-type LED headlights, contrasting suspended roof, frameless doors and hidden sensor door handles that are rare in its class.

The interior adopts a large area of high-grade leather diamond pattern design, 32-color ambient lighting, and a frameless rearview mirrors.

It is equipped with a one-button lie-flat mode for the main driver, 12.8-inch floating central touch screen, mobile phone wireless charging, L2 intelligent driving assistance functions among others.

The Box's Mach E delivers a maximum power of 70kW, a maximum peak torque of 160N·m, and a top speed of 140km/h. 

It can recharge from 30-80% in 30 minutes on a DC charger.

Price of the Box will only be revealed closer to the date of the model's official launch.
