GREAT Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia is set to launch their first locally assembled (completely knocked down, CKD) model in the second half of 2024.

The model in question will be the mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) Haval H6 which is currently crowned as the ‘Best-selling SUV in China’.

Not much else has been revealed at the time of writing though GWM Malaysia does say the CKD plant will play a significant role in the company's plan to establish their market presence in the Asean region.

This according to the company will bolster its' comprehensive sales and after-sales service strategy.

Early this year it was reported that Peps-JV (Melaka) Sdn Bhd (PJVM), a subsidiary of EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB), was appointed as GWM Malaysia's local contract vehicle assembler.

Part of the vehicle assembly agreement included CKD work on the compact SUV Haval Jolion in addition to the H6.

Located at the Hicom Pegoh Industrial Park in Melaka the agreement is to last for eight years with EPMB reportedly aiming to achieve an annual output of 20,000 units by 2028.

Globally, GWM achieve a new record high in cumulative sales with 201,500 units sold for H1 this year - which is a 62.59% increase year-on-year.

June itself was a record-setting month as the company saw 38,104 units sold.
