MERCEDES-Benz Malaysia is putting the spotlight on two elements to define its 2024 E-Class models.

Hybrid Powertrain

Locally assembled (CKD), both 2024 E 200 Avantgarde and E 350 e AMG Line feature varying application of a hybrid powertrain setup - a mild hybrid system and a Plug-in Hybrid setup, respectively.

The E 200’s combustion engine is a four-cylinder unit with needs-based electrification - mashing turbocharging, a petrol engine with an intelligent support from an integrated starter-generator (ISG), and a new battery to power the electric motor as it delivers an increased 17 kW from 15 kW while boosting the torque to 205 Nm.

The E 350 total system output reaches 230 kW (313 hp) with a 550 Nm peak torque of the electric motor is available right from the start.

Independently it has an electric output of 95 kW (129 hp) and an all-electric range of up to 118 km (WLTP). The full electric power is available up to 140 km/h, at which point it is softly capped.

The high-voltage (HV) battery has been developed in-house by Mercedes-Benz AG as part of a fourth-generation family of batteries. It consists of 96 cells in a so-called pouch configuration.

The battery energy content is 25.4 kWh with 19.5 kWh of this available for electric operation. The HV battery has an internal cooling system to account for the high energy density.

It can be fully charged in around 30 mins with the on-board 55 kW DC charger even when the battery is completely discharged.

Apps and Technology

Applications play the other half of the new E-Class models' appeal.

They are accessible via the E 200's MBUX multimedia system Premium and the E 350 e's MBUX multimedia system Premium Plus.

The MBUX Superscreen in the E 350 e spans across the entire dashboard with a large glass surface that integrates seamlessly three dynamic displays: a 14.4-inch central display, 12.3-inch high-resolution driver display and a dedicated passenger screen.

The 3D driver display in the E 350 e allows spatial scene perception with a real depth effect for the first time in the E-Class at the touch of a button.

Mercedes-Benz's online music service has now fully integrated major music streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, and Apple Music - they take advantage of a Burmester 4D Surround Sound System in the E 350 e.

In addition to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Mercedes-Benz have also developed a new compatibility layer that allows the installation of third-party apps.

A new App Store has been integrated into the Mercedes me Store with the following apps being currently available: TikTok, Angry Birds and more games, cloud-based collaboration platform Webex by Cisco, Zoom, Microsoft Teams Meetings, Webex, Vivaldi browser, and Pocket Casts podcast app.

Physically the new E-Class models have a slight longer wheelbase than its predecessor by roughly 3 cm.

The E 200 runs on 19-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheels and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels on the E 350.

Both models feature a black panel-like surface that connects the radiator grille to the LED headlamps and LED taillights. The front grille itself includes a single louvre, a chrome star motif, and chrome surrounds. The E 200 comes equipped with high-performance LED headlamps, while the E 350 e boasts cutting-edge Digital Light technology.

The high-performance LED headlamps on the E 200 has Adaptive High Beam Assist and the Digital Light on the E 350 e features Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.

Both models feature agility control suspension with selective damping system and lowering - the E 200's is 15mm lower than the suspension of the plug-in hybrid.

Ambient lighting is present in both models — Active Ambient Lighting in the E 350 e and Ambient Lighting in the E 200 wraps around the front section of the instrument panel.

The E 200 features Artico man-made leather while the E 350 e boasts leather upholstery with intricate longitudinal fluting, plus climatised front seats with three-stage ventilation and heating.

Exclusive to the E 350 e is the panoramic sliding sunroof.

Driving assistance systems encompasses Attention Assist Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and the Parking package with 360-degree camera.

Active Distance Assist Distronic system relieves the driver by regulating the speed to match that of slower vehicles ahead.

Components of the Driving Assistance Package Plus include Active Steering Assist, which assists with lane-keeping. This is possible in a time window of 30 seconds when the hands are on the steering wheel.

Active Parking Assist with Parktronic as part of the Parking Package has been improved with the starting process now possible through the touch screen.

Additionally, automated parking and unparking is much faster than before for the driver with the speed increased to up to 4 km/h.

Other components of the Driving Assistance Plus package: Active Distance Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Brake Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist (from speeds above 60 km/h), Active Blind Spot Assist, Pre-safe Plus

Mercedes-Benz E 200 Avantgarde and E 350 e AMG Line are priced at RM 355,888 and RM 418,888 (prices are on the road, without insurance. including 10% ST) respectively for Peninsular Malaysia.
