GREAT Wall Motors Malaysia's (GWM) next big model is officially here in more ways than one.
The all-terrain luxury hybrid sports utility vehicle (SUV) Tank 500 HEV is a seven-seater powerhouse that reportedly has already recorded 150 bookings since the pre-launch phase.
On display at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025) in MAEPS, Serdang, the four-wheel drive (4WD) fully-imported (CBU) model from Rayong, Thailand comes with a ladder frame construction and runs on 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Exterior is fitted with a chrome grill, triangular LED projector headlights, a full-width U-shaped chrome trim bumper topped by LED fog light strips, power-deployable side steps, slim vertical taillights, tailgate and a full-size spare tyre.
At its heart is a powertrain pairing of a 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 244 PS and a torque of 380 Nm, an electric motor with 106 PS and 268 Nm torque and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Total output is rated at 346 PS and 648 Nm powering all four wheels through a switchable four-wheel-drive system.
Size-wise the model has a 2,850mm wheelbase and measures at 4,878 in length (5,078 mm with the standard external spare tyre), a height of 1,905 mm and 1,934 mm in width.

Much like the Tank 300 which has already sold 600 units in Malaysia, the Tank 500's performance caters heavily towards being a off-road capable model.
You're looking at a total of 11 drive modes (four of them for on-road and seven for off-road), a mechanical centre locker, off-road cruise control, a water depth detection function, front and rear electronic locking differentials and a 'tank turn' function that locks the inside rear wheel for tighter U-turns.
Speaking of water depth, the Tank 500 has a maximum water-wading depth of 800 mm.
Inside the Tank 500 is upholstered in quilted Nappa leather while the rectangular dashboard is lined with faux wood trim. Up front is a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other notable features is the analogue clock sitting between the air vents, a row of climate control buttons, a Qi wireless charger, a gearlever and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.
Front seats are power-adjustable front seats (eight-way for driver, six-way for passenger) with memory, first- and second-row seat ventilation, power-folding and unfolding third-row seats, triple-zone climate control, an air ioniser and a panoramic sunroof.
Driver assist, safety and smart functions come in the form of a 360-degree camera system with a transparency function, park assist, a soft-close side-opening tailgate, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, curve speed reduction, a “wisdom dodge” system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert with auto brake, door opening warning, six airbags and stability control.

Available as a sole variant, the Tank 500 comes in Hamilton White, Crystal Grey and Sun Black colours.
It is priced at RM328,800 on-the-road without insurance, and comes with the following:
- Lifetime warranty on engine, transmission and HEV system (Exclusive to first hand private owners)
- Power battery warranty of 8 years / 200,000km
