THE development of Perodua's first electric vehicle has entered its final phase with a brand new tease.

Highlighting the interior as well as inner workings of the prototype, the model now named as the EV1 (previously code named as Emo-1) is on display in half-cut form at the Malaysian Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025) in MAEPS, Serdang.

Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said their display highlights Malaysia’s very own capabilities in adopting EV technologies as its own.

He added that Perodua’s display booth at the MAS 2025 also highlights various initiatives done by the company to promote electrification in the country.

Perodua also showcased the X06E which is a collaboration between the automaker and Politeknik Muadzam Shah to develop their own hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) / battery electric vehicle (BEV) working prototype.

“This collaboration proves that our technical students are capable of producing such technologies. For Perodua, it is our mission to grow the automotive ecosystem to transfer knowledge to all Malaysians.

“We actively contribute to nation-building trough such activities so that we all can benefit,” said Zainal.

Perodua also introduced Emerald Horizon at MAS 2025 in regards to advancing green technology. The Austrian-based company focuses on developing an alternative energy source with the use of thorium (a rare earth element).

“Hopefully this development will provide an alternative method to reduce dependence on electricity generated by fossil fuel. This method of generating electricity through a rare earth material would help in reducing our carbon footprint and we see that this method would add to our clean energy usage in the future.

“Currently, Perodua also use solar energy to partly power its plants as well as natural gas as it strives to meet its carbon neutral target by 2050.

“We welcome all Malaysia to visit our booth at the MAS 2025 to experience and see where we are headed. We hope that you can follow us on our journey moving forward,” added Zainal.
