NATIONAL carmaker Proton and Grab Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to enhance vehicle options for e-hailing drivers.

Through this first agreement, the “Saga Power Up for Grab Drivers” campaign starting Nov 4 will offer Grab driver-partners with priority access to owning a Proton Saga as well as exclusive cash rebates and 5% service discount - valid for the first two years or up to 40,000 km.

There is no limit to the number of Proton Sagas a qualified driver can purchase, provided they meet Grab Malaysia’s requirements, during this campaign.

“Proton is thrilled to collaborate with Grab Malaysia to support the e-hailing industry by offering our iconic model, the Proton Saga, to Grab driver-partners. Its reliability and affordable maintenance costs are important factors for entrepreneurs who use cars as their primary working tools.

"Additionally, the partnership provides those who take up the offer with exclusive benefits while also supporting our vision to more accessible transportation for Malaysians,” said Proton deputy chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah.

Grab Malaysia director of country operations and mobility Rashid Shukor said the partnership reflects both parties commitment to providing Malaysians with flexible opportunities in an evolving economy.

“We support our partners who play a vital role in meeting the everyday needs of the community by making it easier to access earning opportunities.

"In addition to Proton’s package, Grab is offering up to RM500 for new driver-partners who purchase a Proton Saga and activate their Grab Driver account.

"As we see an increase in demand for rides, we continuously work to increase and optimise our active driver supply to meet this need. This initiative encourages more people to benefit from the opportunities the digital economy offers," added Rashid.

The current Proton Saga is equipped with features such as ABS, electronic brake distribution, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, an adjustable steering column and a touch screen.

The model surpassed the 2 million sales mark in May this year, earning the recognition as the most popular model in Malaysia’s history

It (the Saga) registered sales of 54,066 units this year which is a growth of 5% over the previous year.
