SHELL Recharge's electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at Resorts World Genting is officially in operation.

First announced in last December the high-performance charging (HPC) hub, which is a development through Shell Recharge's strategic alliance with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia.

The hub features 10 bays with four of them being DC fast chargers split between two sets of CCS2 charging guns to possibly deliver up to 360 kW of charging capacity - output is split to 270 kW and 90 kW when there are two EVs charging at the same time.

The other six bays are serviced by three AC charging stations with Type 2 charging guns that are rated at 22 kW each.

Not only is the hub host to Shell Recharge's fastest charging facility at present but it is also shares another achievement for being certified by The Malaysia Book of Records as the highest altitude EV charging hub in the country at 1,865 metres above sea level.

“This latest milestone further cements our commitment in expanding our innovative e-mobility solutions nationwide, while providing assured speed, range and connectivity for EV drivers.

"Two years ago, we launched our first Shell Recharge HPC charging point in Tangkak, Johor which was followed closely by the announcement of the completion of seven HPC charging locations along the North-South highway eight months later.

"The completion of this record-breaking Shell Recharge HPC hub located at one of the highest altitudes in Malaysia represents a significant feat in our efforts to build EV charging connectivity in this country," said Shell Mobility Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming.

Seow added that they will be making more announcements moving forward to cater to EV drivers by way of EV-charging expansion plans. This includes updates on the high-performance charging infrastructure along the East Coast Expressway corridor very soon to further expand Shell Recharge’s network.

Charging rates at the Genting HPC is overall higher than at other Shell Recharge hubs with a standard RM2.80 per kWh for the 360 kW DC fast chargers and the standard rate of the 22 kW AC chargers is RM1.30 per kWh.

Users of the DC chargers are given 15 minutes of idling time when their EV is fully charged at no charge. This would be followed by a RM10 charge for every subsequent 15 minutes with a maximum of RM400 charge per session. There is also a confirmation fee of RM10 which will be waived if the bay is claimed within 10 minutes.

AC charging use comes with a confirmation fee of RM8 with it also being waived if bay is claimed within 10 minutes. Idling fee is RM2 every 30 minutes after the first 15 minutes when no charge has taken place.

Purchasing the ParkEasy Plus credit bundle will allow EV drivers to enjoy 15% off the DC charging rates (RM2.35 per kWh) while the Shell Recharge Gold membership not only offers DC charging rate discounts of 40% (RM1.65 per kWh) but also lowers the idle time charge rate (RM 6) after the first 15 minutes of inactivity.

Porsche Taycan owners enjoy an exclusive complimentary three-year Shell Recharge Platinum membership which allows them to use the 360 kW DC fast chargers at a rate of just RM0.80 per kWh and a further reduced idle time charge rate at RM5 per 15-minute.

Gold and Platinum members also enjoy a longer reservation time of 60 minutes before they are charged the confirmation fee - they come with an annual quote of 350 kWh.

Additionally, Shell Recharge will be waiving all RM5 reservation fee nationwide for customers that claim their charging bays within 10 minutes of the booking. This update will go live on July 15.
