Singapore-Malaysia VEP process available online as of now
KUALA LUMPUR: Numerous improvements have been made to ensure the newly enforced Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) process for Singapore vehicles entering Malaysia runs smoothly come October 1.
This primarily includes permit's renewal, deregisteration and the transfer of VEP ownership to be made online.
The renewal can be done without having to wait for the expiry of the available VEP tag.

VEP's that reach their 5-year expiry from the date of registration will now also be automatically cancelled.
A notification scheduled around the 60th, 30th and 10th day before the expiry period of the VEP will be sent to the owner of the vehicle as a reminder.
These new functions are said to have been implemented as listed in the VEP portal as of June 28 this year. A benefit to the new process includes minimising the reliance on email and over-the-counter engagement.
Other minor improvements that have been made to improve the experience includes the increase of personnel handling email responses from 5 to 15, and increasing the number of staffs at the VEP Collection Centre (VCC) from 7 to 12 individuals.

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke the latter has improved email response and counter readiness multifold since their enforcement.
Loke added that more improvements will be implemented moving forward. This includes the introduction of an Open Toll Payment System (OPS) that allows the use of credit and debit card in addition to the Touch N' Go as payment for the Road Charge (RC).
Function of the OPS will begin from August 1 though users can already download the MDGS application through Google Play Store or Apple App store to familiarise and understand the apps' function.

Loke says currently there are a total of 23,649 applications made between May 28 to June 29 this year since the announcement of the new October 1 enforcement. This exceeds last year's overall application of 15,424.
In the same period a total of 6,120 VEP tags have been issued to applicants with 1,080 of them having been activated.
Those who have received their tags are reminded to ensure they activate them by uploading the photo of the vehicle's registration number as well as their VEP tag (after they have received them) at https://vepams.jpj.gov.my. Their VEP tags will not be consider valid if they have not been activated.
